ABOUT US
Community, Creativity, Care.
What is Sustainable Braidwood?
Sustainable Braidwood is a subcommittee of the Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council, founded with the values of community, creativity, and care.
Braidwood and surrounds is rich in volunteer initiatives which contribute to a sustainable and community-focused public life . The goal is to celebrate these groups through storytelling, and to connect like-minded people with workshops and events.
Our Story Library
The Sustainable Braidwood Story Library serves as a platform to highlight the individuals and organizations in our region who embody the core values of community, care, and creativity.
Through these stories, we showcase the ingenuity and resilience of our local community, offering insights into sustainable business models, non-financial economies, localised media and advocacy, environmental stewardship, community support networks, regional tourism, and economic development.
By amplifying these narratives, Sustainable Braidwood aims to inspire greater engagement with these values, fostering a stronger, more connected, and sustainable community.
Our Ethos
The founding members of Sustainable Braidwood — Jessica Friedmann (writer/editor), Elke Kramer (design/ art direction), Rose Ricketson (events productions/podcasts), and Clare Young (filmmaker) — came together with a wealth of experience in media production, and a desire to bring visibility to Braidwood’s many existing sustainability-focussed volunteer groups and non-profits.
Sustainability is not a stand-alone concept, but affects every aspect of our shared experience. By facilitating collaborative storytelling, community events, and cross-pollination between existing sustainability and environment groups, Sustainable Braidwood seeks to create and nurture a network of care, through which any one individual’s desire to see change is backed by a strong and supportive network.
Our Vision
Sustainable Braidwood upholds a vision for a small town in which sustainability principles are considered in every aspect of community decision-making, and enhance the wellbeing of people and place. Every resident of Braidwood and surrounds has the capacity to contribute something to a joyful and interconnected engagement with place, creating the conditions for community activity to thrive.
