Our Vision is for a small town in which sustainability principles are considered in every aspect of community decision-making, and enhance the wellbeing of people and place. Every resident of Braidwood and surrounds has the capacity to contribute something to a joyful and interconnected engagement with place, and our goal is to create the conditions for community activity to thrive.

Here you can find two libraries, one of inspiring stories from the community, the other an index of skill sharing to join and draw from. In creating these we hope to energise and encourage the community to connect, unite and continue to shape the deep connections that makes Braidwood flourish.

Sustainable Braidwood is an umbrella organisation founded on the values of creativity, community & care.

It connects back to conservation, to our local environment […] it’s about storytelling, about movement and time, and about the way people experience nature.
— Ruby Green, Stringybark
If you’re going to live in Braidwood, you’ve got to learn to live with possums. And if you’re going to live on the edge of town beside a paddock, you need to learn to live with snakes, unless they’re in the house. You know? That just comes with the territory.
— ‘Wombat Bill’ Waterhouse, NARG

Through these stories, we showcase the ingenuity and resilience of our local community, offering insights into sustainable business models, non-financial economies, localised media and advocacy, environmental stewardship, community support networks, regional tourism, and economic development.
